Swanley History Group – March 2019 Meeting
There was a good attendance at our Annual General Meeting held on 5 March 2019 – our members know from previous occasions that, after the business part of the meeting is completed, we always have an activity or quiz with amazing prizes – though that is stretching the truth a bit!
Members of the committee gave a summary of the highlights of 2018. These included excellent presentations at our monthly meetings; a very enjoyable coach trip around the Isle of Sheppey which included a show at the Criterion Music Hall; the publication of our well received book ‘Swanley War Memorial – The Stories Behind The Names’; our involvement in the Remembrance Day Unveiling of The Silhouettes and also the tree planting of The Remembrance Wood in Swanley Park. Members continue to receive our newsletter and our website and Facebook sites provide fascinating insights into the history of Swanley and the surrounding area, through photographs and our memories page. More contributions to this page are very welcome (send your memories to [email protected] or hand to a member of the committee). All the present committee members offered to continue and were elected and Chair of our committee, Terry Morris, thanked them and everyone who helps at our meetings.
An enjoyable music quiz, designed and compered by Keith and Pauline Whitmore, followed which challenged the grey matter. Well done to the winning Brickell Team.
We are having to change our venue again - due to revised opening times at White Oak Indoor Bowls Centre. From April 2019 our meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month as usual at The Alexandra Suite, St. Mary’s Road, Swanley, BR8 7BU 7.15pm for 7.30pm start. Although an upheaval there will be more space so plenty of room for all. Also there is a stage area suitable to accommodate the projection screen and speaker so much better for visual presentations.
We look forward to seeing you for our first meeting at The Alexandra Suite on TUESDAY 2 APRIL when Francine Hills will be telling us about The Darenth Hospitals.
Christina Tyler, Programme Organiser
