February 2015 Group Meeting/AGM
A strong attendance for our Annual General Meeting, held at The Clocktower Pavilion on 3 February, gives a positive message for the continuing success of Swanley History Group, now in our third year.
In addition to the formal requirements of the evening, including the approval of a change to our Constitution and acceptance of the Group’s Financial Accounts, this was an opportunity to review our development during 2014.
As well as our monthly meetings, we supported initiatives organised by other local organisations, such as the World War One Fair at Sevenoaks Library, providing a stand at the Swanley Park May Open Day and a presentation at a Patient Forum event at The Oaks Surgery. Several attendees said they enjoyed the friendly and welcoming vibe of our meetings. Long may this continue. Our membership is currently 82 which is really good news – and our membership of £5 for the year remains the same too
Especial thanks was expressed by the committee for the support given by several members and friends of our Group who provided, at no cost or for a small donation, very interesting and enjoyable presentations during 2014. Grateful thanks was also given to Gary, Pauline and members who provide help with refreshments.
The committee members were unanimously re-elected. Gary Vaughan and Jenny Carter have stood down due to work and family commitments. They were thanked, in their absence, for their active support of SHG. Two new members, Tracy Mihill and Rose Angus, were elected. The fresh ideas they will bring will be valued.
An Antiques Quiz followed the formal meeting and small prizes given to the winning team (Pauline, Ray and Sheila) and runners up (Terry Kitchener’s team).
Getting off to a good start in 2015 is vital to our Group and Keith’s presentation on ‘Crockenhill Then and Now’ certainly did that! We are confident that members and visitors will enjoy the presentations planned so far for 2015 – though there are some gaps so if anyone would like to offer to do a presentation please get in touch. Help is available if needed. A new venture for us this year is a visit. Our coach trip to The Houses of Parliament in March has proved very popular and is now sold out!
